Sure, upper echelon teams can make bank by growing great perceptions, but most schools have neither the history nor structural position to make a realistic run at national relevance.
Schools like UNM should focus on providing basic education to its state's population. Sure making sure you have a shot at a .500 season helps keep the donor base interested, but really that bare minimum should be your only goal.
