Someone did some math and determined:

To have the same reliability in terms of knowing the strength of a given team, you’d need a 32 game schedule in the NBA, a 28 game schedule in the NFL, an 82 game schedule in the NHL and a 162 game schedule in MLB.

The NBA's predictability is seen by many as a bad thing, but I sort of like sports to be more than random outcomes. Still, I think the NBA could use fewer games (60 should do it), shorter games (40 minutes?), just to keep things at a happy medium and away from being too predictable. If not, they should at least cut out the 1st round of the playoffs.
